UN Women is an entity of the United Nations, with the goal of the empowerment and equality of women. Established in 2010, UN Women serves as a step forward towards the United Nations’ goals of gender equality. As a result of a merger of 4 separate entities in the UN including the Division for the Advancement of Women, the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women, the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, and the United Nations Development Fund for Women, UN Women is a way to bring together resources to have a greater impact. Delegates in this committee will help move forward with the goals of UN Women to design laws and policies that are needed to benefit women and girls worldwide with the four main priorities that women have a role in governance systems, can live a life free from all forms of violence, have income security and economic autonomy, and have a greater influence in building sustainable resilience.
