Committee Overview

The International Criminal Court was founded in 2002 as a permanent tribunal to try individuals accused of crimes of international import, including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes of aggression. The Court provides the international community with a means by which to try persons whose home countries are unable or unwilling to effectively prosecute these criminals. While still controversial for its implications to national sovereignty, the ICC is an important institution for the promotion of international justice.
