Committee Overview
The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) was established in 2006 with the goal of supporting peace efforts in post-conflict areas or countries. The PBC works in a variety of unique ways to help sustain peace efforts. For example, the Commission works with relevant actors such as international donors, national governments, and international financial institutions to help support peace efforts in countries torn by conflict. Some such actors include the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the European Union (EU), and the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The PBC also proposes strategies for post-conflict peacebuilding being sure to recognize any elements that may threaten the peace process. The PBC highlights many factors necessary in peacebuilding such as economic revitalization and youth employment.
