Committee Overview

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was set up in 1947 by ECOSOC and is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. It aims to promote pan-European economic integration by bringing together 56 countries, both EU and non-EU member states, from across Europe. Participation is not limited to European countries, however; All interested UN member states may participate in its work. Through cross-country dialogue, UNECE offers analysis, policy advice and assistance to governments, all with a clear economic focus. By forging tools for economic cooperation in areas such as energy, environment, human settlements, population, statistics, timber, trade, and transport, UNECE aims to provide a regional framework that benefits countries in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA), and in Southeastern Europe.
