The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
Committee Overview
The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) is the governing body of the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime. It serves to provide guidance for UN actions in the areas of Criminal Prevention and Criminal Justice through resolutions. It reviews UN standards and norms in order to find precedence for any of its decisions and guiding actions. The Commission was established in 1992 as one of ECOSOC’s functional commissions by Resolution 1992/1. It deals with a wide scope of issues including transnational crime, cybercrime, piracy, economic crime, money laundering, environmental crime, and improving judicial systems. It also provides member states with information on law enforcement and crime prevention. This is done largely through providing substantive direction to the quinquennial United Nations Congress on Criminal Justice and Crime Prevention. Any decisions made by the Congress are then followed up by CCPCJ.
