SOCHUM is the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. Its agenda items relate to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. SOCHUM drafts resolutions regarding these issues, and these resolutions typically become recommendations to all UN Member States. These ideas are often supported by treaties and conventions. SOCHUM also considers topics regarding, but not limited to, the advancement of women, the protection of children, indigenous issues, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, and the right to self- determination and social development.
