DISEC is the First Committee of the UN General Assembly. It is influential in determining the global security order. DISEC members deal primarily with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community. DISEC seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime, with a main focus on promoting international peace and agreements. DISEC works closely with the United Nations Disarmament Commission and the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament, as well. Mainly, DISEC’s work functions as a basis for General Assembly resolutions or is submitted as recommendations to the Secretariat or Security Council.
